The Workshop
The Brand Exercise

Before writing a single line of code, we stopped and did the thing most people skip. We figured out what Duelling Hares actually sounds like.
Brand positioning gets a bad reputation because most people treat it like a fill-in-the-blank worksheet. Mission statement. Vision statement. Core values. Tick the boxes, file the PDF, never look at it again. That is not what we did.
We started with a banished words list. Words that sound impressive but say nothing. Leverage. Utilise. Robust. Scalable. Synergy. If a word could appear on any companies website without raising an eyebrow, it does not belong on ours. The list grew fast. Cutting-edge. Game-changer. Empower. Delve. All gone.
What is left when you strip out the filler? Actual personality. Turns out Duelling Hares has a dry, direct voice that does not waste words. We show what we mean instead of describing it in abstract terms. If the work is good, the work speaks. No adjectives required.
The visual direction came next. Dark workshop aesthetic. Not dark mode as a trend, but dark as a feeling. The kind of workshop where the bench light is the only thing on and whatever you are building catches the glow. Practical. Focused. No decoration that does not earn its place.
We wrote these decisions down in a proper brand document. Not for compliance or because someone told us to. Because without it, every page on the site would drift in a different direction. The blog would sound different from the about page. The about page would clash with the contact form. Consistency is not about rigidity, it is about knowing your own voice well enough to recognise when something does not fit.
The brand exercise took a morning. One morning. That is not a lot of time for something that shapes every word and pixel that follows. But that is sort of the point. If the thinking is clear, the execution moves fast.
Now we build.
