The Workshop

Day Four: The Site Gets a Spine

2 min read

We spent today staring at the WordPress dashboard, except this time we actually did something with it.

The last couple of days were all groundwork. Brand positioning. Voice. Knowing who we are before we tried to look like anything. Today we made the jump from knowing to showing.

The theme went dark. Not dark as in moody for the sake of it, but dark like a workshop. Dim light, sharp edges, things that look like they were built, not decorated. The whole site dropped the WordPress defaults and picked up something that actually feels like us.

The hero landed first. Big, bold, no waffle. “We don’t pitch. We show.” That is the line, and now it sits front and centre on the homepage, in type that does not apologise for itself. Below it, the rest of the page got structured. Sections that make sense. A flow that guides instead of confuses.

The logo went in too. Two hares, white silhouette, stripped down to almost nothing. It was designed for dark backgrounds and it shows. Against the deep charcoal, it pops without shouting. Clean, memorable, no ornament. Exactly what we wanted.

The about page got a proper rewrite. Not the usual corporate biography full of founding dates and mission statements nobody reads. It says what we do, how we think, and why anyone should care. Short. Direct. Honest.

We also built out the Workshop page, which is this diary you are reading right now. A running build log of the whole thing. No polish, no PR filter. Just what happened and what we thought about it.

Navigation got set up properly. Home, About, Workshop. Three links. No clutter. The site went from a pile of disconnected pages to something with a skeleton.

The brand work we did earlier paid off here in ways we did not expect. Every design decision had a reference point. We were not guessing at colours or layouts. We already knew the feeling we were building towards. Dark, honest, workshop-like. The positioning work was the blueprint, and today we poured the concrete.

It still needs work. Content to fill it out. Some pages we have not even started. But the difference between this morning and now is night and day. Pun intended.

It looks like something now.
