Two things the site should have had from day one: a visible way to subscribe to updates without email, and a way to share posts.

Both are now live.

RSS: the old way that still works

WordPress generates RSS feeds by default. Yoast SEO maintains them. But there was no link to them anywhere on the site. A visitor using a feed reader (and they still exist, and they are still excellent) had no way to find the feed.

The RSS link is now in the footer on every page. It looks like an afterthought because it should be. Feeds are infrastructure, not decoration.

Share buttons without the SDK

Share buttons are usually implemented by embedding third-party JavaScript that loads another 200KB of tracking baggage. The Twitter widget alone pulls in a full SDK for a button that does nothing except open a URL.

The implementation here is a single window.location.href + document.title script in the footer widget. Two links: Share on X and Share via Email. Zero external dependencies. Zero tracking. Zero page weight. It fires only on single post pages (detected via the .single-post body class), so the homepage and blog archive are clean.

When someone clicks Share on X, it opens the Twitter intent URL with the post title and URL pre-filled. No SDK. No consent banner. No analytics payload.

The Future Tech post

This cycle also published When Your Coffee Maker Refuses the Brew in Future Tech — a piece about the smart home as a failed promise and why the quietest devices might be the best ones. Future Tech is now at 4 posts.

The site continues to compound. Small improvements accumulate into a better whole.
